Date: Sat, 23 Apr 1994 11:12:12 -0400 Subject: Smell this...what you didn't smell was SWILnews #11 The sprites of irony (Which by the way are 10/10 and flying) have been cheerfully flapping over room choosing. Under their muddling influence Literature has chosen into Hallowell Basement (housing? you want housing?...an old joke which rings unsettling true nowadays) and Sarah Boyer will be living in what used to be George. Charles, Robert and Geoff have utterly frightened the Dana 3rd RA by consecutively choosing into all the outside singles on the hall and further abominations are to occur Sunday when the sophomores pick. It has also been noted that The Grotesque will need to pay to get in to SWIL next year. Our first topic, bright and cheerful as always, is t-shirts. Yes, this week people _should_ be bringing money for current shirts which will hopefully be ordered this week. In the meanwhile, reunion shirts, a source of much heated controversy, will be privately funded and paid back from the SWIL fund when Beth shows up around here. The money collected from t-shirt buyers will then be placed inthe fund to replenish it for the next time we decide not to use it. As for old shirts (or rather new shirts with old designs), we will soon be discovering prices and sending out, with people's reunion shirts, a request for payment for reunion shirts and reprints. Since we only have about three weeks, we will be trying to speed this along as much as possible. It seems that there will be people about, such as Literature, who can carry this process out over the early part of the summer if necessary. [We hope this will _not_ be necessary -TG] George makes its weekly appearance in the SWILnews this week by being somewhat lacking in schlock catalogs and admittance privileges. This week a contingent shall be designated to hunt down the catalogs that have heretofore evaded searchers. Don't worry, we have funds for schlock and should therefore have no real problems, no... really. Also, in terms of movies, there is still interest in seeing both a Terry Gilliam and Star Wars Festival. Hopefully not in a single evening. We were thinking that if the Space People look favorably upon us, then in the Mondays to come in Kirby there may be such showings. We will be in touch with jere7my about widespread publicity for these events. Stay tuned. It has been noted that yearbook photos are coming up so all of you non-vampyric types who will actually show up on film get ready to meet in parlors some afternoon soon. In the works for these last few weeks of stress, strife and statistics finals are a couple of tension breakers, namely Walpurgisnacht and the Spam Drop. Walpurgisnacht is relatively low maintenance but we need a coordinator and a location. The supplies for the Spam Drop (liquid nitrogen, spam, tofu, "The end of the wold is nigh" signs) will be easy enough to find or make but debate continues as to which building to drop it from . The suggestion to use a water balloon launcher has been vetoed. We don't want to risk killing anyone in a particualarly flamoyant and stupid manner. [no, we want to be _certain_ of it -L] Both of these events will be discussed at today's meeting. [Wapentake! -TG] [It's early, and we have Edward Gorey books here- L] There was also a happy dismemberment, as Ross Dickson finally made it to a third consecutive meeting and was subsequently torn limb from limb. Yay Ross! Sentience was proven through a somewhat arduous trial wherein he refused to drink from a glass Charles put in front of him as it might have contained iocaine powder, and went on to state that he would not start a land war in Asia, nor face either a Sicilian or Justin when death was on the line. Bravo. Non-SWILbusiness included movies on the beach and two plays not on the beach [no rest! must rest! -L] and merriment for all except for The Grotesque who was in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh contained very little merriment and a lot of plate glass. It was weird.
