SWILNEWS OF MANY REMINDERS (February 28, 1991) Yes it's that time of the semester, when everything starts to happen all at once. First reminder: This Saturday is the meeting where we decide on the design for this year's T-shirt. This always takes a long time and with a lot of other things happening on Saturday I want to start the meeting promptly at noon. Be there! As far as other SWIL events go: Plans continue for Samuel R. Delany's talk in early April. A full schedule should be announced soon. The bookstore currently has several copies of his latest novel, _Stars in my Pocket Like Grains of Sand_. You've got a month left to write for BEM. Submit stories, art, cover ideas, seminar papers (well, maybe not) to Fran. We are going to try a spring Pterodactyl Hunt, organized by Stephen Sample. Current thoughts about when are to try for either April 5th or April 19th. (Not during Parents' Weekend.) What will happen during Parents' Weekend is the traditional Live Chess game. Josh Smith is in charge. A suggestion was put forth to model it with US forces on one side and Iraqi forces on the other. This received several votes against, so it probably will not be done. (And the point may be moot given recent developments.) The Yearbook wants to get photographs of various campus groups. I signed us up, but have yet to hear anything. Stay tuned. I will try and get it scheduled for right after a meeting. Of course this all assumes that we're going to show up on film, a dubious assumption to begin with. Seen on the book shelf recently: the paperback version of Tehanu: The Last Book of Earthsea. Also, _The Real Story_, the start of a new series by Stephen Donaldson; _The Ghost From the Grand Banks_, a new novel by Arthur C. Clarke; and the paperback version of Robert Heinlein's memoirs _Grumbles From the Grave_. Upcoming is the sixth book in the Hitchhiker's Guide trilogy. (No, there is no fifth book. What do you expect from Douglas Adams.) Review (by Nao Parkhurst): _Dogsbody_ by Diana Wynne Jones.: Diana Wynne Jones is usually defined as a "children's author," although her books can be enjoyed by many ages. _Dogsbody_ is the story of an astronomical frame-up. Sirius is condemned for a murder he didn't commit, and has to redeem himself by retrieving the weapon. He is exiled to Earth, where the weapon was last seen. If I tell you much more I'll give away too much of the plot, but I can tell you what I think of the book. It's an amusing book with a few serious statements scattered here and there, written as fantasy with references to current Irish-British relations and, unexpectedly, to Celtic mythology. I recommend it for light hearted reading. AT-TEN-DANCE (that's what it says on the paper) from 2/16/91 Peter "Just 'cause it's there" Wagner, Wendy "Dance at Ten?"
