SWILnews Volume 7, Number 6 October n<27, 1984 PARTY PARTY PARTY! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Halloween party is Friday night, November 2, and will include filking and reading, food, costumes, fun and games. This is a private party for SWIL and friends, guests are welcome-- but all pay cover charge. Those who assisted with the Pterodactyl Hunt are automatically invited-- if you know someone who worked that's not on the current SWILlist, let Sherry know (& invite them ve~bally yourself). As a private party, we cannot use Budget Committee: money (those funds must be used for only all-college things). Therefore, each person must pay a cover charge of $1 by Nov. 1 at midnight, or $2 at any time thereafter to get in. We need to know how many people are coming, and we need the money to shop with. (If yOU pay ahead and don't come, we'll refund your money.) If you are so inclined, you can arrange with Sherry to bring home-made goodies in place of money. A note in college mail will be fine if deposited by thursday. Any ideas, suggestions, or offers of help are welcome-- directly to Sherry Hartenstine, Esther Oey, or Irene Ghatt. So you wan-to. to pay, but you can't find me. Suggestions: put it under my door with your name attached, OR I eat in the small dining room, look there(Thurs. lunch 11: 30-1: 00, I will be there). ~~~Sherry P.S.: the party will start around 10 p.m. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OK. Now that the important stuff is out of the way...at the last meeting were present Ruth Alfasso (sans rock!), Mike Caspar, Eric Cohen, Perry Deess, Ed Ervin, Shoshanna Green, Mike Jones, Alison Knapp, Eric Knapp, Esther Oey, Julie Patrick, Gavin Schnitzler, Susan Cooper (yes, that's Jay), Jed Shumsky, Jack Sutherland, Steve Ward, Heather Whipple, Tim Berger, Jim Moskowitz, and Vinny Murrell. Also Jon Rapkin, Esther's sister Lydia, and graduates Mike Kane and Neil Ottenstein (ex-Ghod Emperor of SWIL). Congratulations are due to Tim, Jim, and Shane, now enrolled on that great list of non-members. Fannish news: there is lots of info on Philcon posted on the SWILboard. This is a very good convention, although it is unfortunately the weekend before Thanksgiving so it is surrounded by classes. Any SWILfolk who are going might want to put a list of their names on the board so they could get together and maybe share rooms or transportation or companionship. I (Shoshanna) have many catalogs from Off Centaur Publications, who publish filk books, records, etc. See me to get one of your very own. Hitchhiker's news: _So_Long_and_Thanks_For_All_the_Fish_, the next book, is due out in December. An Infocom game based on the series is out as you read this, available for almost any home computer. I think Jon said he was getting one for his Mac; interested folk could ask him about it: The game was co-written by Infocom people and Douglas Adams; Infocom has a reputation for staying true to the books they base games on. The SWIL movie, _Fahrenheit_451_, will be shown Sunday November 11. There will be a poster-making plea out soon, as soon as we know things like how many showings there will be and when. Julie has a collection of back issues of "Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine" for anyone who would like to borrow them. This is particularly interesting since Shawna McCarthy just won a Hugo for editing ASFM. She also has four cute little mice who need homes. If you'd care to have one of the masters of our world, talk to her. Her roommate thanks you. FIAWOL! Shoshanna and Jed p.s. Jed wants to know if everyone liked last week's SWILnews.
