SWIL NEWS Volume 6, Number 5 October n<8, 1983 Again we had a good turnout. Appearing were Joseph Ruff. Matt Katinsky (now with voting privileges). Jed, Matt Wall, Alison, Irene, Shoshanna, Heather Whipple, Esther Oey, Ben Felzer, Jay Scott, Stefan, and myself. Stefan is next on the list for full official voting privileges. Shoshanna says she is definitely going to Boskone and wants to talk with others who will be going. I just heard that Barbara Weene is planning on driving there. She also has put a note on the SWIL board about driving to Philcon. Speaking of which Matt Wall says he is offerring crash space. Talk with him for more details. Alison Knapp has put together a booklist. There is an incomplete list in the computer account of science fiction things in McCabe put together by Shoshanna. If anybody has a Reader's Guide or Encyclopaedia of SF it would help Shoshanna very much to borrow it. Jed found some things which H. Bruce Franklin has done which are in McCabe. See the SWIL board or account. Jed and Shoshanna have looked at movie lists and so will talk about their findings at the meeting. Those two, you remember, are running for leadership in this organization. The official voting will be on Saturday the 15th. Of course it just occurred to me that there is no reason why there can't be a joint leadership. but of course that is up to them. Unless someone else has a SWIL t-shirt design I believe we will go with Alison's one. Please bring it to the meeting. Alison. The saying we have so far is "We have ways of making you SWIL." Anybody else have ideas. I thought I heard someone say "SWIL, SWIL together." Any puns are welcome. Perhaps "All's SWIL that ends SWIL." Think about it. I want to send a copy of the chosen design to the SWAPA on Monday. We voted in favor of "Nuclear War in Science Fiction" as H. Bruce Franklin's topic for his talk. By the way, I am making a notice about the talk which will be copied by SDS. We will need volunteers to stuff it on Monday. Also some posters need to be made for that and for Dark Star which will be shown on October 16 unless something self destructs. Shoshanna said that she will be "quality" editor of The Unicorn Star. Halloween party on Saturday night the 29th in Lodges 5&6. Swapa collation is Saturday October 15. Send zines to Jim Huang 1887 Beacon St. #3, Brookline. Ma. 02146. The sooner you send them the cheaper it will be for you. LACON2 membership is still $40 I believe. That will be the next World Con and be from Aug 30 to Sept 3. Now people should have access for the project id SWIL which is now the name of the account. Strange things are being done about the quota and I have been cleaning up a few things. I am a bit rushed this week. so that's all for now. See you on Saturday at high noon.
