SWIL NEWS Volume 6, Number 2 September n<17, 1983 I have finally been able to get in here. I Just received my physics account and so ventured forth into this thing. I don't know if we can get in here any other way than attaching. there should be a proJect name associated with ORGSWI. but I don't know how it works yet. Of course. if you do want to get in and do something you need to know the password. That will be revealed at the meeting which will take place Saturday in a reserved dining room at high noon. There is a good chance that we will change the password at a convenient time as many people outside of SWIL who already probably know the present one. At the first official meeting of the year there were various and sundry new and old people. In addition to Sherry, Jay Scott and myself there were Edwin Ervin, Gavin Scnitzler, Irene Ghatt, Michele Gamburd, Heather Whipple, Alison Knapp, Matt Wall, and Douglas Watt. Thank you all for coming. On Saturday there will be a SWAPA collation. I have already received copies of zines from several off campus people. Providing that Jennie is here with everything. the collation will take place at approximately 1PM in Cornell. All of you who are interested in seeing what this mysterious obJect is or have zines of your own come. I believe that the copy count is 30. On Sunday the 25th at 7:30 and 9:30 PM in Clothier we will be showing the amazing film _DARK_STAR_. At the SWIL meeting we will be making posters to advertise this fact. Please bring poster material and utensils. One thing I mentioned which is quite interesting is that there is a Walden's _Otherwolders_ book club which offers discounts on certain SF&F publishers. I have put a copy of the letter about it on the SWIL Board. The SWIL Board is located opposite the mailboixes of the latter half of the alphabet. near the exit. They are resurfacing the bulliten boards this weekend (or so they claim) and so I will take down the notices before Saturday, but they will reappear on Monday. On October 14 at 7:30 PM H. Bruce Franklin will be here to speak on Science Fiction and America (or some topic like that). It will take place in the meeting house. Luckily _Baiders_ is being shown on Saturday and so will not conflict. Sherry is organizing the SWIL Halloween Party again. She has reserved Sharples II for Friday and Saturday Oct 28-29. We need to decide just which date we want it. Think about it. While you are thinking. you should also think about some other topics: Who wants to be in charge of _The_Unicorn_Star_? When should we start asking for contributions, etc.? What movies do we want to try for next semester? When will we have our next readings and filksings? Who is planning to go to Philcon and how will you get there? Anybody want to participate in discussion groups? Who will be the heir apparent? I mentioned Philcon. There is a notice about that on the SWIL Board. It is taking place from November 18-20. That is the beginning weekend of Thanksgiving vacation and so will not conflict with any work that is due and also since we are allowed to stay here we don't have to stay at the hotel. I will be bringing a copy of a past year's _The_Unicorn_Star_ to the meeting if I remember. There are several of you who may be reading this who have not participated all too much in times past. Well, unless you specifically tell me (i. e. sending me a note in college mail, or standing in front of me and telling me) that you want to continue receiving SWIL NEWses, this is your final copy. People on this list include: Charles Barker, Janet Conrad, Richard Hughey, Todd Karakashian, Dan Levi, Ramona O'Halloran, William Tsai, Joanne Wood, Tom Wright, and John Yetter. Edwin Ervin mentioned that he has TSR's answer to _Traveller_. It is called _Star_Frontiers_ and if anyone wants to be involved with it contact Edwin. Start making up your booklists if you are willing to let anyone borrow your books. Any suggestions of what we should be doing are welcome. If you see any interesting book reviews don't hesitate to give them to me or put them up on the SWIL board yourself. Also if you have read a good book recently please tell us about it at the SWIL meetings. Remember to bring in any t-shirt designs you may have. I have Filthy Pierre's Microfilk. If anyone wants to borrow it to put filks into the account you are welcome to do so. I Just found out today the HUGO awards from a person's line.
