SWIL NEWS Volume 6, Number 10 November n<12, 1983 Last time we had the opportunity to see Jay Scott, Matt Wall, Ed, Esther, Irene. Alison, Heather, Stefan (who popped in to say hello), Shoshanna, Joe Ruff, Ellen Sasse, David Minionis, Jim, Jed, and myself at the SWIL meeting. Shoshanna assured us that we will have a place to meet this Saturday at high noon. We have selected a design for the SWIL t-shirt. The quote/motto that goes with it is visible in an appropriate place on the page. I have asked Dave Bedell to do the calligraphy for the shirt. The plan as I see it is we need to bring the design or a copy of it to Philcon to be put in the SWAPA which will have its November collation at Philcon. Then after getting orders from all interested parties we shall send orf the order. We need color prererences and I think we will also ask SWAPA people for their color preferences. The majority will rule on the color choice. Remember that Barbara is offering rides into and out of Philcon and so is Mike Kane (at least as far as Secane as opposed to Swarth.). Everyone that is still owed money for the Pterodactyl hunt talk with Jed about being paid back. And now in partial form: ********** SWIL NOTICES ************** -------------------------------------- I. Calendar of events ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ November 18-20 : Philcon IV. Et cetera ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ THE MOST IMPORTANT NEWS OF THE TURN!!!!! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Anne McCaffery has a new book! MORETA: Dragonlady of Pern Remember the Ballad of Moreta's Ride? Well Anne doesn't. But if you ever wanted to see a SLIGHTLY tech Pern, or a Pern without Jaxom (wouldn't we all), or thousands of innocent people die, well here's a book for you. The Book of the New Sun is now completely in paperback. Also FOUNDATION'S EDGE is in paperback now as is Spider Robinson's excellent book MINDKILLER. There is a book review for SUPERLUMINAL, Vonda N. McIntyre's new book, on the SWIL board. NAO. (There is another New Sun book on its way out, as well. It's not a direct continuation of the first series; I think it takes place after the coming of the New Sun. I don't know when it will be out, but Wolfe promises that it will appear in his afterword to Citadel of the Autarch. The list contains my books and books from a list that Jed made earlier (I managed to erase a short list of Shoshanna's books). It's fun and easy to use--Just type "BOOKS" for full instruction. Even if you don't want to enter your whole booklist, try it out and enter a few at a time. --Dave B. Hi, gang! "We gonna burn the town down tonight, right?", Those of you who are in the know know of course to what I am referring. Philcon! and does Daddy have crash space! I have 97.342% fere sure, crash space for plus or minus 4-6 persons (well, we can fit a few more if you BYOSB and B)(sleeping bag and beer) for those nights of Philcon that are necessarily or even voluntarily late ones. Several people have approached me on this subject, some of whom I don't remember. So as not to insult the ones I don't remember by listing the ones I do please contact me again after you read this in swilnews, or still better, enter your names into "PARTIER" file, that is, if I can figure out how to create it see I am still have trouble with the god forsaken machine. They should have named it Dave or Hal or Matilda instead of Primos. Anyway, that is it -- other than, I will grant space, if there are too many requests(which I doubt, somehow) on a first come, first serve sort of basis altered by factors of sex, wealth, and niceness. Matt Wall _The_Unicorn_Star_ is no more! Well, at least the title is no more. We have decided that we need a new title. Please submit suggestions to Neil, Jed, Shoshanna, or other just hold on to them until the next meeting. We will try to do an all college mailing using the computer facilities. Any one have ideas of just what we want to say? Also, we can put a message in the _Weekly_News_ asking for it to be held from now until eternity, perhaps. Looking back in time I noticed that the people volunteering for work with this publication were Ben Fulves, Stefan, Jed, Shoshanna, and Irene. Just remembered that Shoshanna said she was going to track down the recording of Ursula K. LeGuin's talk in the Meeting House last year. We Have Ways of Making You SWIL Page 2
