SWILnews 3 vol. 4 Minutes of SWIL meeting, September 27, 1981 Meeting hammered at 11:50 Everybody is sick and some are out of sorts. (But Alice nicely handed out sorts to the latter types.) Long argument about what "weeks" and "weekends" are, concerning the dates for the workshop. Settled. Ahh. (The Settlement was to wait and ask Somtow when he could come, being sure to have a calendar in hand at the moment.) We wondered whether Vinge could come if we held it in the spring. Jim told the story of the whole business. (Antibalderizing as he went.) We seemed to feel warm that the workshop would be best in spring. Unfortunately the Unicorn Star would be best after the workshop and we're not "hooked in with Movie Committee" this fall. We've got to do something this fall, though. Probably a movie. (Since this meeting your beloved? Rien has been in contact with George Scithers. If we can get together a group of 50 or more people, he will come and not charge us anything. I suggested early November as a possible date. He said that would probably be good, and I should write to him. We could make this our Fall Event.) Now we need a Spring date for the workshop. Mid-February sounds good, but we'll have to avoid boskone. (Boskone is -um, I've lost the sheet I wrote it down on. I'll find out again before this Sunday.) Got to get ahold of Somtow, also do a second round of letters to possible workshoppers. There will be a reading this Saturday (i.e. today) in Ashton at 9:50 pm. Discussion groups are being formed. (More on next page.) T-shirt orders are still being taken. The pattern of the shirt for last year will be on the board RSN. The old shirt will be reprinted only if there are enough orders. Um. No more business. An order of fake business - We should have the NY review of books Cordwainer Bird review in a reading so people could know why the SF/F Library in DuPont is thus named. Ooph. Assez. Au revoir. News: Spinrad said yes, Sheffield said no, Hartwell has already said no. Scithers will come speak for free in November. Somtow is virtually unreachable, but we're still trying. REMEMBER THE READING TONIGHT IN ASHTON, AT 9:50 MEETINGS ARE AT 11:30 am, NOT NOON in Sharples <------------NOTICE
